Read the nutritional chart on the back/side of packaging on foods. Just because it says "Low Fat" or "Light" on the front doesn't mean it isn't high in sugar or salt. By reading the back, you know exactly what is in the food and how much or little is in it.

 

BE AWARE OF PORTIONS AND SERVING SIZES

 

Some items have two or more servings per package. Be aware of how much is one serving to avoid eating more than one at one time. Eating more than one serving at a time increases calorie intake which may cause you to consume over the recommended amount of calorie intake for that day.

To monitor portion size, use the cup of your hand. That is about the size of one cup, which is the recommended portion. This prevents you from putting too much food on your plate.

DO NOT SKIP MEALS

 

Skipping a meal leads the body to believe it will not be getting any food any time soon so the body begins to store fat instead of burning it. Eating your meals while having healthy snacks inbetween will allow the body's metabolism to increase and burn more fat.
